In today's Boston Globe, reporter Eileen AJ Connelly reports on yet another type of scam that is being perpetrated against homeowners in financial trouble. This new industry of "foreclosure rescue companies" purports to offer troubled mortgagors assistance in working out loan modifications. They disseminate written materials which look like official IRS or governmental communications but in fact are not.
